Though I am absolutely compassionate about some of the things people do go through in relationships, there is a strong sense of boredom that spews from a notable number of stories building up to marital trouble that makes me think 'well, if I was in that one I would have an affair too! Yikes! Loosen up!'
Here is the thing, if you cannot have fun with the one person you either intend to spend the rest of
your life with, or the person you 'OMG' vowed before many witnesses including your parents to spend the rest of your life with, then who in the world can you have fun with? Bottom line is relationships, whether they are marriage, dating or 'going-to-marry-you' courtship is an important place to integrate fun.
It's frightening the way this generation trivializes marriage break-ups. There is a lot on various mass media outlets that gives the impression that if marriage isn’t working, step out of it at the drop of a hat. Those programs rarely tell us the other side of it. Divorce, unfaithfulness, and a dysfunctional relationship cause so much pain – ask a child from a home of divorced parents. I also dare to gently add; ask America (don’t stone the messenger…)
The thing is, just as friendships do not suddenly become fun unless you work on them, your relationship with that special other will not create itself like a genie unless you work at it.
